Anyone know who was on Hwy 178, yesterday (Saturday), taking pictures just south of Rocky Bottom in the decreasing radius curves?

I think he got some pretty decent pictures of me on the ST2.....before I tossed it down the road on Hwy 215.

Fine. A little swelling on my left knee and soreness and a bruise on my right shoulder....

I got the other side of the ST2, this time, so now it matches on both sides!...I can't believe I've gone, pretty much, nine years without an incident, and now I've crunched the bike twice in about two months. I plastic welded just about everything that needed to be fixed. I only need a headlight and a turn signal lens.

Rookie mistake....I over-reacted in a curve with changing conditions and gave it too much brake....nice low-side at about 40 mph.

Glad to hear your OK first off. Broken plastic may cost a little money and pride, but at least you can glue them back together again.

As for the photo guy, I saw some guy with a fairly decent camera a little before the SC/NC boarder on 178 a few weeks ago. Wasn't doing any crazy riding since the cops were all over the mountain, but was wondering who he was too.

Ouch Terry - glad you are OK. I have my ST still sitting all apart in the garage from my high side leaving my neighborhood with slick new tires and a gooey throttle a couple of months ago. My damage was to the windscreen, left side & headlight fairings, and left turn signal assembly. Nothing else suffered even a scratch. I have all parts and the Ducati pieces from the factory came all nicely painted and placarded. The body injuries take a bit longer to heal. I now half of a left big toenail growing back and still a bit of a right shoulder problem too. My first bike drop - ever...oh well...

Both of us should thankful we didn't tangle with on-coming traffic! Feel better soon.

Sorry to hear you went down Terry! Hope you heal quickly. Can't forget my down on 178. Glad to hear you didn't leave in an ambulance like I did. I saw the photographer a few weeks ago. He was set up on a nice left hander as I was headed toward Brevard. Saw him in time to set up for the corner and then point at him through the whole corner. Wish I could get a hold of that photo.

You gonna make Mt. Airy?

You gonna make Mt. Airy?
We're still planning on it.

The cheapest thing to do would be to scavange the headlight and turn signal off of Vicki's ST2. There are three headlights on eBay, but they want more for them than I am willing to spend.....the 748 is still waiting for replated rockers and I wouldn't trust the Paso on a ride that far from home, so....I have to repair the ST2 before the rally.....or take the Harley! :blum:

So no one knows who the photographer was? :(

THEY were doing something like that up at chimney rock a year or 2 ago
police in plain clothes were standing on the side of the road taking pictures of everyone who went buy.

When it's commercial, they usually have signs up like Kilboy, etc. It's a little odd when there is no advertising for the photographer. The next person that's see them should pull over and ask.

I didn't really look over at him, but I was tempted on turning around and asking him. Never know, it may have been a resident taking pictures to continue his goal of getting all the motorcyclists harassed by "The Man." :wheelie:

:iagree:
It IS an ugly bugger....and I actually made that statement about my old DR650 which just may be the ugliest bike ever.....

Somebody started a thread about it on ADV while I was in Daytona.....but I was eventually pointed to it and set the record straight. :ok:

CLICK HERE (http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=439287&page=4) to see that...it's my story and I'm sticking to it! :rtfm:

T'wasn't me on Saturday, but I went up to Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (PARI) north of Rosman off 215 the Wednesday before. I stopped at the Moorefield marker on 178 just south of the NC line and took some pictures of the road and my bike, but no other bikes came by. Lonesome.

PARI (www.pari.edu) is an unusual place to visit. I had no idea something like that exists so close to home.

Them's there fight'n words! Don't dis the DR. :punish:

I used to have a V-Strom 1000, and yeah they are pretty ugly. Had a BMW GS1100 before that, and it was even uglier, especially the price.

Yep, figures my name would come up multiple times in a thread about photographers. Nope, this wasn't me, I usually set up in a corner on 276. I like long constant radius corners where I can set up and the riders aren't too distracted by me. Adam, are you just parking the bike at home now? Oh and I started the SC Tag thread over on ADVRIDER.COM:

How do we know when and where you are going to be shooting pictures and how do we get prints?

You don't. I am a full time wedding photographer, so I only shoot on Saturdays I am not at a wedding or doing something else, so that's maybe 3 times a year. I usually post up after I have been shooting, if I happened to get you, I'd be more than happy to send you a full size file suitable for printing, or I can order for you from my printers, which is much better quality. Maybe one day this year I will announce where I will be, or let you all tell me where to go so I can get some good shots.

I think that RC-51 belongs to someone who works out at GE. I swear I've seen it in the motorcycle parking lot over there.

As for the photographer on Hwy 178 that day....I'm starting to think it was probably a local who was trying to get evidence to complain to the police. Problem is, most people can't do the speed limit through those curves, so he was wasting his time, if that's what he was hoping to accomplish. It's like the tight left-hander just before Scatterbrains. You can do the speed limit (actually under the speed limit) and drag a knee through that curve every time.....and you really can't tell the speed of a bike by a picture, anyway.

I just post them up on my flickr account, since they are my own personal shots. I'm at http://www.flickr.com/photos/puskunk (http://www.flickr.com/photos/puskunk). All my sets are here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/puskunk/sets/ but I'm not the most organized person in the world, so there are some pics sprinkled throughout there that are not in sets, I just uploaded them.

My professional site is http://www.touchofgracephoto.com/ for weddings and portraits. Anyone has a wedding coming up or needs some family shots, that's what we do. Don't worry, I get the attractive blonde to shoot the families, I'm not the best with kids.
