Curious if any one here is actually in the rally.

The start of the rally is Aug 24 at the Marriott in downtown Spartanburg. The bikes/contestants will be arriving all weekend. I plan on trying heading over next weekend to check it out.

For those that may not know - the iron butt rally is held every other year and is basically the mother of all long distance riding rallies. Riders generally average 1,000 to 1,200 miles a day for 11 days and accumulate points for getting certain places along the way. http://www.ironbutt.com/about/default.cfm

I'll go. What time are you heading out there?

I have been waiting for the Rally to start, as I really liked the daily reports that were posted on the IBA site back in 2007. I did not realize they were starting in Spartanburg. It would be pretty cool to run down there and go check out all that is going to be running. I heard a 33-yr old Suzuki with a rotary engine will be in it this year. In 2007, there was a guy riding an early 70's Harley (1972?).

I was planning on going over next Sunday (8/23) late afternoon/early evening figuring that most all of the bikes would have made it into town by then.

I kept up with the daily reports back in 2007 too. Amazing stuff. I heard that several of the riders will be using a SPOT transmitter this year to give everyone real-time GPS data so you can follow their route.
