176 is still a mess when you get up to where it crosses 25. There are large patches of sand (mostly coming down the mountain toward Saluda). Ben and I did a ride on it last evening and turned around at 25.

178 doesn't look good up near the N.C line the road has some bad cracks in it and DOT throw a lot of loose gravel in them. Boy when I came a round the first big right hander to start up the mountain and I saw all that gravel boy did I squeeze that seat tight. Be careful everyone, other than that the road is good on the S.C side.

Stretch what time do you think you will be going through Franklin Sat.

I hope to be passing through franklin around 12:00 maybe 1:00
thanks for the warning on 178. I haven't been above rocky bottom since early november. I always hated that right at the state line.

weird I was just up there saturday (176 brevard to landrum) trying to escape the rain. I don't remember any sand.
Unfortunately the sand dosn't wash away as easily as the salt, and usualy lingers well into the spring. Fortunately sand isn't as popular as salt. The guys on the easttnriders forum are giving promissing road condition reports
fingers crossed.:focus:

Me and a few other riders will see you at that BP just N. of Franklin on 28.

01-19-2010, 07:47 PM
there is an Exon just north of Down town franklin and a Marathon a little farther up the road. I think the next one is a Citgo, and there is an old Mom and Pop gas station at the end of my tire eater.
do you mean the B.P. on the four lane section 19/74/28?

I'm going through some serious withdraw this week.

notice the salt free road in the back ground

That might be a Marathon it's the station where we pulled over and checked the tire pressure the last time I rode up there with you, it's on the left when you are just N. of Franklin

01-19-2010, 09:57 PM
I sit corrected.
that is a B.P.
I think I remember it being a citgo a few years back. Shal we say 1:00 at the gas station?
that gas station is an important marker for me. there are only 3 passing zones left before the road gets fun:wheelie:

01-20-2010, 06:34 AM
That's it, we will be there

Hey Stretch the guys and I decide that we are going to leave a little earlier Sat. so we are going to meet at the store at 10:30 and leave from there we want to get over there and back before dark.

01-21-2010, 05:02 PM
getting back before dark should not be an issue(dosen't get dark till about 6:00). 10:30 at da store sounds good to me. It will still be a little cool at that time so worn your friends to wear layers. The weather for cast is still looking good for saturday, especialy over near the Gap

01-21-2010, 08:40 PM
