Another challenge I am finding is sourcing some affordable pistons. All the after market stuff is very high compression. I think I wouldn't be able to use pump gas. The OEM pistons new are about twice as much as the HC pistons.
Any good tips on sourcing some 100mm 11.4:1 pistons for a 2007 Ducati Monster S4R?
What are the HC pistons rated to produce? 12:1? 13:1? You can get away with the higher compression on 93 octane as long as you spend a good amount of time with your power commander getting your map just right. Also when considering high compression, not everything is related to just the combustion chamber. Having a free flowing exhaust will help immensely with detonation as well as making sure your getting a good flow in from the throttle bodies. Also many street bikes are coming from the factory with 13:1 compression. When I build my 749 race engine I'll be looking into high compression pistons and will be using a machine shop called Fox Performance. Hope this helps!
