Default Re: 4 stroke threw a rod :(

It sounds like you had some sort of oil pump failure or oil starvation issue. I read something like this in the Thumper Talk Forum where another Noob with a KLX450R put in the oil filter backwards, after an oil change, which caused oil starvation and threw a rod, seized the internal bearings, cracked the piston...... Post tear down inspection and estimate pricing by the dealer had the Noob muttering that it was a $2000.00 mistake to rush the oil change in order to make the ride that morning.

Good luck and I have provided a link to a service manual for a 2008 KLX450R. I believe the motor and internals are similar if not the same other than different cams, valves, carb and gearing on the KLX450R for more low and mid range at the expense of the KX450 top end.

Hope it helps.

The owners manual also recommends changing the oil every 600 miles since it only holds 1.08 L or 1.14 quart w/ filter change. That is not much.
