I see companies selling factory seconds all the time. You can find leathers with stitching errors. I don't know about you but I expect my stitching not to blow a seam on impact. The factory sells this stuff heavily discounted with a warning that it is not fit to be sold as "1st quality". It MAY be perfectly safe but, I'm not willing to risk my head or body to save a little $$. I can tell you that certain paints, striping chemicals and even glue from stickers can eat away at the shell and liner underneath. That is why there are no stickers and no repainting my helmets.
The early bird may get the worm but it's the 2nd mouse who gets the cheese.
