Cool Back from Roebling Road - US DESMO

Wow! What a great day on the track! Chris Fitz and myself got down to Savannah around 7:30 sunday night and dropped the bikes with the trailer off at the track (which turned out to be a great idea) and then joined up with the rest of the group at dinner for pre track day festivities. Monday morning came extremely early as I did not sleep much the night before due to anticipation of the upcoming day of speed and we woke up to a foggy, misting and wet day. After breakfast and getting to the track for the tech inspection and riders meeting, Chris and I were one of the few who braved the morning conditions and got out on the track for the first session. I hate riding in the wet so I tip toed around the track and orientated myself with the turns and braking zones. 2nd session was a completely different story. The track now had a dry line and speeds were picking up. By the third session we were going all out. Chris and Jay (Road Rash Sucks) were flying and I was having some difficulty keeping up with those two in the corners, but was holding my own with the rest of the green group while I was out there. I found myself conisistently coming through the final turn around 110 mph, hitting the stripe at 150mph and top speed on the straight was around 162mph before gearing down and setting up for turn one. The straight line speed and handling of the Honda was AWESOME!

I had a great time even though I have a lot of techniques to learn about riding on the track, but I can definitely say that is the most fun I have had on two wheels. I saw lots of improvement and felt like I was riding the wheels off of the Honda although I was probably on riding up to 85% of the bikes ability (I'll have to work on my own abilites to keep up with that machine). The entire US DESMO group had great day and only one rider crashed the enitre day which happened in the last session which was kind of sad to see. A beautiful Duc 748 low sided in turn 6. Fortunately he was OK with just a couple of bumps and bruises. CMP is in may and I'm hoping to hit that one as well. Hope more guys from Carolina Riders will be able to join in on the fun!
