DC => Charlotte, where to live?

Hello all!

Stumbled across this forum as my wife and I start our job search to locate to Charlotte in the near future. We're moving from the MD / DC area and looking for suggestions on where / where not to live in the area.

We've done some cursory housing searches but have no clue on the area, simply moving to Charlotte as I work in finance. My wife did a couple new construction walkthroughs through a neighborhood about 20mins outside of Charlotte, the name escapes me.

We're targeting a single family, min 3k sq ft, 2car garage type home and hoping to get some suggestions on neighborhoods w/in a 'reasonable' distance to uptown. No kids at the moment so haven't thought about school districts. ($400-450k range)
