This biggest thing that has helped me is to remember "If it's hard, your not doing something right". Keeping the bead/sidewall down in the relief valley of the rim is the biggest thing to watch out for. I also found that putting a block of 4x4 between the tire and the vertical post helps keep the tire in place while braking the bead on stubborn tires.
