Default Stuck Gear linkage

I am not the smartest man, nor have I ever claimed to be. Every once in a while I manage to fix things and diagnose problems leaving myself bewildered and excited that someone without decades of experience could accomplish said matters.
As a master BMW tech informed me after a rather interesting episode; the rear brake pedal is not a selector of gears!
Experience means nothing if there is no intelligence to absorb it!
