Upcoming Dual-sport/Adventure rides
Looks like the snow is slooooowly melting from the mountains, finally time to get into some great dual-sport/adventure riding action.
This is basically the stuff I had on the sheet circulated at the last Charlotte ADV pizza dinner:
Not really meant to be a "ride planning" thread, more of a heads-up. We can start a new thread for any event that generates interest.
1) WHAT: RICHLAND'S LOOP
WHERE: Lenoir/Blowing Rock/jonas Ridge
WHEN: Let's pick a date, maybe some Sunday in March??:
RIDING TYPE: abandoned dirt road, great dirt and paved twisties, optional
hill climbs, multiple creek crossings. Small Adv. bike or any dual-sport
THREAD: here's a thread from one of last year's Richlands rides: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...296774&page=93
and the resident Japanese tourist's take from another Richlands loop:
2) WHAT: BUZZARD'S ROOST, HURRICANE CREEK, "SECRET DIRT DRAGON"
WHERE: East of Crestmont/Waterville NC, near the I-40 rockslide
WHEN: Likely an overnighter, so sometime in April when we get decent
RIDING TYPE: abandoned dirt road, numerous creek crossings, maintained dirt/gravel, not even sure what else! Dual-sport territory.
THREADS: here's a website about Hurricane Creek: http://www.tailofthedragon.com/other...hurricane.html
a thread about Buzzard's Roost: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=240224
looking down on I-40 from Buzzard's Roost
3) WHAT: SCREAM'N BEAVER RALLY
WHERE: Murphy NC
WHEN: April 30-May 2
COST: $50 (beer/food included) Due by April 18
RIDING TYPE: mostly dirt and paved roads, some water crossings, 1 or 2 very cool but short singletrack trails. Big-bike friendly (I'd even take a streetbike down most the roads, albeit at a much slower pace)
4) WHAT: 9th ANNUAL ADV EASTERN RENDEZVOUS
WHERE: Laurel Springs, NC
WHEN: May 13-16
COST: $55 (meals, band(s), beer wagon, etc. included) - Due by
RIDING TYPE: everything from paved twisties to barely passable singletrack. Multiple routes each day over various terrain, 2 of which (a Richlands Loop and a trip to Brown Mountain) will be led by yours truly, Wanderer, and hopefully Knybanjo. Some routes are repli-racer friendly, others are for dual-sport and "dirtier"...
Here's my post re: the ride we're leading (again, there are other rides as well): http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...521168&page=26 (scroll down)
5) WHAT:Yanni's "Appalachian Action 300"
WHERE: Hot Springs, NC
WHEN: May 28-May 31(?) - Memorial Day weekend
COST: $50 Due at event - meals, drinks included
RIDING TYPE: Some street & dirt twisties, lots of sweet, nasty single/doubletrack, hillclimbs, creek crossings, etc. This should be pretty epic - Yanni doesn't typically disappoint!
Go n-éirí do thuras leat!
